These comments were very insightful and thought provoking.

While the economy is trying to pull itself out of a slump, there are great opportunities out there. The falling in the stock market has made many companies look very affordable for acquisitions. I bet Microsoft is very happy right now that they weren't able to buy Yahoo at $35.

Additionally, many companies are going to tighten their belts a bit. This could be a huge boon to open source developers. Yes, the software is free, but the implementation of many open source projects require tweaks to meet enterprise needs. That's when consulting can be quite lucrative.
